In Breaching Mindfulness, the Golden Buddha breaches out of the ocean in an utopian location. It alludes to the many realms of “pure lands” yet ambiguous on which location. The enigmatic fantasy is even more prevalent with the head of the Golden Buddha ascending violently out of the water with little regard for anything that was occupying the same space. The massive size of the prominent head takes up the majority of the surface of the canvas and engulfs the viewer by scale simultaneously.
